The Pentagon released the figures confirming that Iran is actively taking part in Iraq. Combined with the Iranian Republican Guard soldiers that were detained and the additional carrier group being sent to the region, Iraq is bound to see more than less action.

The US Join Chief of Staff informed congress that Iranians operating in Iraq are targets and that we could be making cross-border raids in to Iran.

The benefit of putting pressure on Iran also shows in South America with Hugo Chavez. This action will keep Chavez off balance due to our proximity and his paranoia. With oil falling below $50 per barrel, look for Venezuela and Iran to up the rhetoric to spike oil prices causing a correlated rise in Chavez’ and Ahmadinejad’s power.

If the US can keep Iran guessing, we can better control the situation and decide what actions are needed regarding staying or pulling out.
